Appointments
Appointments are an important part of your treatment and this time has been reserved specifically for you to speak with the doctor and receive treatment. In order to make remembering your appointment easier, we will send you an email or text message appointment reminder the day before your appointment. Please arrive on-time so every patient can receive treatment in an efficient and timely manner.
As a courtesy to our patients, we kindly ask for a 24-hour notice if you need to cancel your appointment, which you can do from the email or text appointment reminder. We are aware that unforeseen events sometimes require missing an appointment and we appreciate your cooperation.
Please be aware that during the course of your orthodontic treatment some appointments will need to be scheduled during school hours. Typically these are the longer appointments, including (but not limited to) putting braces on or taking them off. Because we understand value of a child's education, we make every effort to limit these appointments for you. Most schools are aware of and understanding to this need; we will always provide you with a school absence excuse form.
Office Closures
Throughout the year our office will close for various reasons. Most of these are planned and scheduled ahead of time, such as holidays and office vacations. However, we usually remain open on school vacation weeks and some holidays to minimize the amount of time will you need to miss school or work for your appointments.
Sometimes we will need to cancel our day or close early unexpectedly, most often due to inclement weather. If you have an appointment during one of these rare days, we will make every effort to contact you as soon as possible. To make it easier for you to stay updated during a storm, our office is registered with the Rhode Island Broadcaster's Association, so any office closure or delay will be listed on television, radio, and news station websites, in the same location as you will find school closings. Even when we are closed we are accessible via email and directly with our doctors' on their contact phone numbers.
Orthodontic Emergencies
While we do not expect you to have a true orthodontic emergency, we have a protocol in place to help you in case something unusual occurs. During normal working hours, please call our office and let us know that you are having a problem. We'll be able to determine if you need to be seen right away or if your problem can be addressed at a more convenient time for you. If needed, we can make a same-day appointment to address your concerns. After-hour emergencies (evenings, weekends, holidays) are typically handled directly by our doctors; we do not have an answering service or other on-call service. The doctors' contact phone numbers are always available by calling our office.
